TThe Department of Applied Economics came into existence in March 1979 as a Research Department offering both M. Phil and Ph. D programmes. Later, the Department offered Master of Business Economics and in the due course, the programme changed to MA. Applied Economics. At present we have two programmes such as Ph.D and MA Applied Economics. Professor (Dr.) K. C.Sankaranayananan was the founder Head of the Department of Applied Economics. The Department also had an academic collaboration with the Development Research Institute (IVO), Tilburg University, the Netherlands under Netherlands Council for Co-Operation in Higher Education (NUFFIC), Government of Netherlands for Six Times under SEPTRA-MHO-Programme during the period from 1999 to 2004. Over the years, the Department has emerged as a premier Institution in India offering research and studies in the area of applied economics. We have our Alumni placed in various reputed institutions and organizations across the world. Our faculty members, librarian and staff members support and encourage students from all sections of society to fulfil their dreams and career in economics.
